When the German Palatines were given their land grants in the 1760's to 1770's they were in the area of Saxe-Gotha of what is now Lexington and Saluda Counties. There was a large concentration of German's in the Edgefield District: Timmerman's, Zimmerman's, Utz (now Ouzts), Straub (now Stroud), Straum (now Strom) and Dorn's. Also in the Orangeburgh district: There was a large concentration of Swiss/German's under the direction of Rev Geissendanner. The Abbeville District had a large concentration of the Scotch Irish: McNeill's, Campbell's, McIntyre's, McAllister, etc.

Hope this helps you.
