I would like to ask for some local information. I have searched the deed
books of Edgefield and a couple of microfilm  of court records from the
LDS library and bought a few books and looked on the net. I have found
the Robert Speer family to be in Edgefield . I know he died intestate
 1797 and his wife Elizabeth moved then with her 3 sons to Madison Co
Al. My goal is to go back a generation on Robert and find Elizabeth's
maiden name. It occurred to me I might be going about this the hard and
expensive way. Since I live in California , I am not able to search in
Edgefield but would like the suggestion of someone who has searched
there. I woould really appreciate any help. Thanks
