RENTZ, JOHN H.	1845-1905 ECHOLS

John H. Rentz was born Dec. 20, 1845, in Lowndes (now Echols) County,
youngest son of Samuel Rentz (Vol. 1). He was married in Lowndes County in
1869 to Martha Carter, born 1849, daughter of Isaac Carter (Vol. III), and
to them were born five children:

1. Lyman U.	b. June 1, 1870,	m. Annie Stran.
2. Ida	b. July 1874,	m. Andrew T. Dasher.
3. Eff ie	b. Oct. 15, 1875,	m. Smith M. Carter.
4. Levin H.	b. Aug. 5,1878,	m. Effie Marshall, dau. of John.
5. Benj. Franklin	b. Dec. 4,1886,	m. Lilla Corbitt, dau. of Tiner.

John H. Rentz lived on the Statenville-Howell public road in Echols County,
on the west side of the Alapaha River. He died there July 18, 1905; his
wife died Dec. 3, 1910. They were buried at Wayfare Church. The son, B. F.
Rentz acquired the homeplace and property of his father, and lived there
until his death in 1944, and is now owned and occupied by a grandson, J. L.
Rentz.
The son, Lyman U. Rentz became a prominent medical doctor and practiced and
lived at DuPont, Milltown (now Lakeland) and Ray City; and died at Ray
City, Aug. 9, 1912.
John H. Rentz enlisted as a private March 4, 1862, in Co. "G", 5oth Georgia
Regiment, C.S.A.,and served through the war.
NOTE: Echols county with its small population, never had enough men to form
a company during the Civil War, and as a result all of its men who served
were in companies from other counties. Thus, Mr. Rentz and his brothers
Peter and William served in a company from Quitman County which was also a
small population county. Six others from Echols were in the same company.

RENTZ, SIMON	1765-1820 BARNWELL DIST. S.C.

Simon Rentz though he lived, and died in South Carolina, has many
descendants who live in "Wiregrass Georgia," particularly those of his son,
Samuel (Vol. D. Simon Rentz was born about 1765 in old Orangeburg Dist.,
S.C., later Barnwell District, a son of George and Catherine Rentz. George
died before 1785 as his widow died testate that year. Her will dated June
13, 1785, was probated Aug. 6, 1785, and among other uequests she gave to
her sons Peter and Simon Rentz 200 acres of her land, lying on Savannah
Creek in what was then Colleton county. Mrs. Catherine Rentz furnished
supplies to the South Carolina militia in the Revolutionary War. Simon
Rentz's wife was named Mary but her maiden name is unknown. Simon and Mary
had the followig children (named in his will):

1 . Charles	b. 1788,	m. Anna Catherine Bamberg, dau. of John G.
2. Molsy	b. 1791,	m. Graham Kinard. Was dead in 1820. No issue.
3. George	b. 178-,	m. (unknown).
4. Peter	b. 179-,	m. (unknown).
5. Margaret	b. 1794,	m. Jacob Hughes (Vol. 1).
6. Samuel (Vol 1)	b. 1796,	m. Elizabeth Rice, dau. of John.

9. Susannah	b. 1800,	m. Henry Kinlock Chitty. Dead in 1825; no issue.
10. Anna	b. 180-,	m. Isaac Kinard.
11. Keziah	b. 180-,	died single before 1825.
12. Chas. Frederick b. 1808, m. (unknown).

(Note: Due to absence of birthdates of birth-years it is imossible to list
the foregoing children in their order. Birthyears of only four or five
definitely known.)
The will of Simon Rentz was dated April 3,1815, and was probated in
Barnwell Ordinary's office April 28, 1820. The will names the above
children. Soon after the death of his widow Mary in 1825, a proceeding was
filed Dec. 14, 1825, in Barnwell Court of Ordinary, respecting her heirs
and settlement of her estate as well as that of her husband; and the
petition discloses that Mrs. Chitty was dead and left no issue; and that
Stephen and Keziah were dead and left no husband or wife and "left no
lawful children"; and that the son, Charles Frederick was a minor; and that
Mrs. Anna Kinard was dead and left only one daughter, Elenor, age about 10
years.

RENTZ, SAMUEL (p. 236): (1st) The mortality schedule attached to the 1870
Census for Echols County, shows that Mr. Rentz died in January, 1870. The
1868 date was supplied by some of the descendants and is evidently
incorrect. (2nd) The son, John H. Rentz, was born 1845. The 1855 date for
him was supplied by his son, and is evidently incorrect. The 1870 Census
shows him 25 years of age and married and with one child. (3rd) The son,
Samuel, Jr., married twice. His second wife was Elizabeth, daughter of John
Q. Lieupo of Cook County.

RENTZ, SAMUEL (p. 236): He served as a private under Capt. Samuel E.
Swilley in the 2nd Regiment, Florida militia, June 16 to Dec. 16, 1837.

RENTZ, SAMUEL (p. 236): The mortuary schedule attached to the 1870 census
of Echols county, shows that he died at the home of his widowed daughter,
Mrs. Olive Lighsey. He was buried at Wayfare Church as was his wife; graves
unmarked.

RENTZ, SAMUEL R. - VOL.VII: In the sketch, the subject's death date should
be given as Nov. 29, 1814 (not 1815). The second sentence in the last
paragraph should read, " She is a daughter of the son, William L. Rentz."
