Noticed your e-mail from June 27, 1998 listed in the archives. George
Washington Steward is from my William Stewart line. He changed his name
From Stewart to Steward because there were two George Washington
Stewards in Texas at that time. I have your gggrandmother, Rebecca Jane
HINTON referred to as the widow of Major P.C. Whitaker as having married
George on September 21, 1968 and that is from page 589 of the Freestone
County, TX History book. (Which I would love to have a copy of if
anyone ever comes across it.) It does not mention her parents, but if
she is from the same county there is a possibility that her family is
mentioned in this history book also. Hope that helps?

I am diligently searching for the William Stewart's parent's and
siblings, which was George Washington Stewart's father. It is a
different William Stewart then the one mentioned from Edgefield county
that married Sarah. Our William Stewart was in the old 96th Abbeyville
district and married Nancy Ann Burt 1810. All of his children were born
in SC: James F., George Washington, Argus, Moody Burt, William Jr.,
Anderson (Andrew?), Malinda, Sarah, Francis Marion, Lafayette Thomas,
Ardella Burt, Artilla Lovis, and James Monroe(my gggrandfather). He then
migrated to Monroe County, Mississippi. Anything sound familiar to you?
