REAVES, Drury	1775-1856  WILCOX

DRURY REAVES was born in 1775 in North Carolina, and was probably a son of 
Drury Reaves, R.S. of that state.  He married Elizabeth Brown, daughter of 
Phillip Brown and granddaughter of Frederick Brown, R.S. Phillip Brown and 
Drury Reaves both lived in the First land district of old Irwin now Wilcox 
County.  Mrs. Elizabeth Reaves was born in 1782 in North Carolina, and died 
December 5, 1855, in Irwin (now Wilcox) County.  To Drury and Elizabeth 
were born:

1. Cecelia	b. 1810, m. George R. Read September 4, 1828.
2. John	b. 1812, m. Mehala Burnham February 12, 1835.
3. Phillip	b. 1818, m. Ann Eliza Boney November 8, 1840.
4. Josiah	b. 1820, m. Eliza Rountree, daughter of Moses, March 13, 1844.
5. Martha	b. 1822, m. Wright Tomberlin, son of John, November 3, 1840.
6. Mary	b. 1825, m. C. M. Powers November 15, 1946.
7. Sarah	b. 1829, m. William Akins May 16, 1849.
8. Lucretia	b. 1831, m. Joseph Tomberlin July 14, 1847, son of John.

Drury Reaves and his brother, John, moved to Georgia in 1811 from South 
Carolina where they had lived awhile.  Drury bought Lot of Land No. 320, 
14th District of then Telfair but now Dodge, and sold half of it to his 
father-in-law February 8, 1811 (Deed Book "A", page 182, Telfair County). 
 In Pulaski County John married Miss Mary Davis October 31, 1811, and about 
1815 moved to Jackson County, Mississippi.  Sometime later, about 1846, 
Drury Reaves and his wife moved from Telfair to Irwin and located in 
present Wilcox County where some of the married children were living.  Mr. 
Reaves died there June 11, 1856.  He and his wife were buried near 
Abbeville.
Mr. Reaves and his wife united by letter July 1, 1843, with New Hope 
Primtive Baptist Church, and he was ordained to the Gospel Ministry by that 
church in October 1843.  He and his wife were granted letters of dismission 
February 3, 1844.  Their subsequent church membership has not been traced.
George R. Read and John Reaves were appointed administrators of the Reaves 
estate, August 4, 1856.  Receipts by the heirs of the estate were signed 
March 15, 1859, for their distributive shares by John Reaves, William 
Akins, Josiah Reaves, Philip Reaves, Wright Tomberlin, C. M. Powers, Joseph 
Tomberlin, and by William Akins as Guardian for the minors of Wade H. 
Honeycutt. (Estate Records, Irwin County Ordinary's office).
Mr. Reaves was Justice of Peace in the 339th district of Telfair County, 
1827-1829.

REAVES, DRURY (p. 233): His father, Drury Reeves, Sr., died in Darlington 
District, S. C., in 1792, and another son, Robert Reaves, applied f or 
administration on the estate Dee. 14, 1792, and qualified June 19, 1793.
