Greetings, and happy Memorial Day, everyone!  This seems like a good
weekend for my inaugural post--hopefully the person with my 'missing link'
will be out there!

I'm researching the family (ancestors, siblings, descendants) of Peter
RAYFIELD, b. abt 1790 in NC, probably Anson Co, d. 1860-1870, probably
Chesterfield Co. SC.  He was married to Nancy ???, b. abt 1797 in NC, d.
abt 1875 SC.  

Known or likely children:

1.  Elizabeth Rayfield, b. abt 1818 SC, m. Moses Moore (mentioned in
Nancy's will)

2.  Theophilas/Thomas Rayfield, b. 1819, Anson Co NC, d. 1864, m. Tempy
Griggs (believed likely, but not proven as a child of Peter and Nancy; but
related in some way )

3.  John Rayfield, b. 30 Dec 1823, Chesterfield SC, d. 28 Feb 1907,
Chesterfield, SC, m. Frances Griggs (listed in census with family, and he &
Fannie lived long enough to have told my grandparents who they belonged to
)

4.  Sarah Rayfield, b. abt 1826, SC, m. John Adams (mentioned in Nancy's will)

5.  Mary Rayfield, b. abt 1829, d. bef 1876, m. ? Knight (mentioned in
Nancy's will)

6.  Martha Rayfield, b. abt 1832, SC (mentioned in Nancy's will)

7.  Peter Rayfield, b. abt 1833, SC (listed in census with family)

8.  Nancy Rayfield, b. abt 1836 SC, m. Benjamin Moore (mentioned in Nancy's
will)

As you can see, Nancy took care of her girls in her will; apparently Peter
had taken care of the boys earlier.  We have been unable to locate a will
for Peter, or burial sites for either Peter or Nancy.  

Theophilas' spot in the family is problematic.  We're sure he's a relative
(too lengthy to explain), but his claiming to have been born in NC while
all the rest of the children say SC is a bit out of the ordinary.  However,
the family sits firmly straddled the NC/SC line in Chesterfield and Anson
counties, so it's possible.  

I've got my fingers crossed for any connections with these folks!
