Terry,

Are you sure that you tried every possible way of pulling up your father's
record? My father was 53 (or thereabouts) when he died in 1973. I was a
minor at the time and collected benefits underneath him. My father is listed
in the SSDI, but I had a heck of a time locating him. I had always been told
that he was born in 1920. His military records confirmed this date, however,
my father was listed in the SSDI as having been born in 1921! This was why I
could never get a hit on him. I finally located his SSN and input JUST his
SSN. Lo and behold, there he was!

The SSDI records will list every person who has had benefits paid out under
them. Whether they collected it themselves, their minor children collected,
or a spouse did. Try your search again. Start out with as much information
on your father as you have. Then try deleting some of it. Their records
might not match what you feel is correct about your father. Mine sure
wasn't. Maybe my experience will help you to locate your father's records.

happy hunting,
Tina Hall
