Hello Bonnie. Guess I should have thought of that! Moses Pitts was born in
Brooks County, GA in 1866. He had siblings, James Thomas Pitts born 1860,
Charles G. Pitts born 1862, and Mollie Pitts born 1868. Moses Pitts married
Janie (Janey) Weeks June 26, 1890 Colquitt County, GA. They had at least one
son. Moses became blind when he was a young man. Moses and Janie moved to
South Carolina. Moses' mother was Sarah ? . Could be Sarah Smith because
that is the name on James' death certificate. Could be Sarah Pitts as I
cannot find a marriage record for Sarah. James Pitts married Dora Ann
Catherine Durst. Her parents were James Robert Durst b Edgefield District,
SC 1842, and Martha Ann Catherine Hiers b. 1846 Colquitt County, GA . Martha
was the daughter of Philip Hiers born 1794 Colleton district, SC and Keziah
Ann Hunter b. 1804 Barnwell District, SC. Charles G. Pitts married first
Dora's sister, Keziah Durst. They had two children Phillip and Fannie Pitts.
After Keziah's death, Charles married her sister Eliza.
I haven't found any other information for Mollie, though I have been told
that she married and moved to Florida. Moses came back to visit several
times. Some older cousins remember that he was always picked up at the train
station in Valdosta, GA, but they cannot remember where he lived in
Carolina. I haven't found any connection to Janey Weeks.
Sarah?? Pitts had a sister named Eletha or Letha Pitts. Letha had a son
named Josiah. They are all listed on the 1880 Brooks County Census. Letha's
last name is not listed. Not much more. Strange thing, Charles son supplied
the data for his father's death certificate. It lists parents as unknown.
His son was the Postmaster in Moultrie, GA. He was born in 1890 and Sarah
died sometime around 1915.Thanks
Sheree
