Subject: Peter GUERRY & Mary E UNKNOWN, about 1812-1887 SC From: Mary Jacques Date: November 14, 1999 I'm looking for information on the family of Peter GUERRY, who may be Peter Issac GUERRY, and Mary E UNKNOWN GUERRY, who may be Mary PIERCE. To summarize what I can document: If I estimate the date of marriage for my Peter GUERRY (Source of Peter's name: 1850 SC Census) and Mary E UNKNOWN (Sources of Mary E's name: 1850, 1860, 1880 Census) in relation to the birth of their first child, Martha H Guerry in 1841 (Source: Martha in Jacques/Jaques family Bible; 1850, 1860, 1880 SC Census), then probably around 1840 my Peter GUERRY married Mary E UNKNOWN who was born 1812 (Source: Mary's birth & death dates in Jacques/Jaques family Bible.) On the 1850 SC Census, my Peter GUERRY, age 39, male, Labourers (sic), is with his family in Charleston, St. Stephens Parish. He is listed as born in South Carolina. His wife is Mrs. Peter GUERRY, age 38, female, born in South Carolina. Children are Martha H. GUERRY, age 8 female, born in South Carolina; George King GUERRY, age 2, male, born in South Carolina. (Source: 1850 SC Census Charleston, St. Stephens Parish, Page 405, GUERRY family-Lines 30, 21, 32, 33. Dwelling number 9; Family number 9. On Page 406, date the data was enumerated is given as 31 August 1850. Someone photocopied the census information for me and did not copy the header on page 405.) In the 1860 SC Census, no listing given for Peter GUERRY. Mary E. GUERRY, age 47, female born in South Carolina lives with her children in Charleston, St. Stephens Parish. She works as a Seamstress. Value of Real Estate is 100; Value of Personal Estate is 50. Living with her are Martha, age 18, female, born in South Carolina; and, George, age 12, male, born in South Carolina. (Source: 1860 SC Census, Charleston City, St. Stephens Parish, Post Office South Santee Ferry, page 177, Lines 35, 36, 37. Dwelling number 128; Family number 128. On page 178, Post Office of St Stephens Parish is given as South Santee Ferry. Also on Page 178, date the data was enumerated is given as 31 August 1850. Someone photocopied the census information for me and did not copy the header on page 177.) On the 1880 SC census, Mary GUERRY lived with her daughter, son-in-law, and their family in Colleton, SC. Mary Guerry, who was born in 1812, died in 1887 (Source: Mary's birth and death dates in Jacques/Jaques family Bible.) ***Questions pertinent to my above-documented family and to the Referenced Family Information given below these questions: 1) Is my Peter GUERRY the same person as Peter Issac GUERRY (son of Issac GUERRY and Martha Elizabeth HUGGINS; grandson of Peter GUERRY III and Judith Rembert CROFT; great grandson of Pierre Guerry II and Marguerite REMBERT; great great grandson of Huguenot immigrants Pierre GUERRI and Jeanne BROUSSARD) who married Miss Mary PIERCE in 1840. (For details on Peter Issac GUERRY's family, see: Transactions of the Huguenot Society of South Carolina, No. 76, 1971, pages 98 and 99 noted in my Reference Family Information at end of this email.) 2) Is my Mary E. who married Peter GUERRY around 1840 the same person as Mary PIERCE who married Peter Issac GUERRY in 1840? 3) Does H in Martha H GUERRY's given name perhaps stand for HUGGINS. If her father is Peter Issac GUERRY, then Martha Elizabeth HUGGINS is her paternal grandmother. 4) Does KING in George KING GUERRY's name give us a genealogical clue to a surname within his mother or father's family. Surnames used as given middle names for children and grandchildren was common practice within my family. 4) PIERCE is a given middle name for one of Peter and Mary E GUERRY's grandsons (Sources: Jacques/Jaques family Bible; G. Pierce's Death Certificate; death certificates of G. Pierce's children.) Does this give a genealogical clue to Peter GUERRY or Mary E UNKNOWN's ancestors? ***Reference Family Information: GUERRI/GUERRY family lived in Charleston; Prince Frederick Parish Georgetown district; St. James Parish Santee; Prince George Parish Georgetown District;St. James, Goose Creek; St Stephens Parish, SC and perhaps other places (See Heads of Families in South Carolina U.
