According to the park rangers, it is considered the turning point in the south (when I was in school, Battle of Kings Mountain was considered the turning point in the south, I'll let you decide). Daniel Morgan and his men defeated the British troops, led by Banastre Tarleton. The battle was fought in an open field, near today's town of Chesnee which is between Spartanburg and Gaffney.
