Subject: OUR NATIVE HEATH From: Carol Middleton Date: January 29, 1998 This is for Gwen Stuart about her discovery of no surname HEATH in Myrtle Bridges' book OUR NATIVE HEATH: Gwen, a HEATH is an expanse of land covered with shrubs and heather, like a moor. When Myrtle calls her book Our Native Heath, she is evoking recollection of the moors of our Scottish ancestral lands. I own a copy of her book and it is a grand book, filled cover-to-cover with record extracts of the many families of Richmond Co., NC; much hard work went into gathering these records. Those of us who are of the many many surnames (other than your HEATH that apparently wasn't in there) are ever grateful for Myrtle's great work. Her book is a (very reasonably priced jewel) and will be passed down through my own families for generations to come.
