=====================

Orr's Rifles was one of the groups which was also designated as a "First South
Carolina Regiment." Rosters of this regiment may be found in Vol. 1 of
Salley's South Carolina Troops in Confederate Service" I recently located
this volume - it's very hard to come by, and have someone transcribing it now.
It has about 7,000 men listed overall.

The best history on Orr's Rifles is "The History of a Brigade of South
Carolinians" by J. F. J. Caldwell. This book also covers the 1st Infantry
(Gregg's) , the 12th, 13th, and 14th Infantry and is one of the best surviving
histories of the war from a first hand account generally, in addition to
focusing on South Carolina Troops.

More info. on Orr's Rifles (and other South Carolina troops) may be found on
my web site "The Civil War in South Carolina" at
