I thought I hadn't gotten much in the last 3 days, but today I'm sure. > Any ideas of what's going on? Surely SCROOTS is posting more than this. Two is all I've seen in SCRoots today. I don't know why it is so quiet. Maybe they are shy? Maybe the heat has caused everybody to lose interest? Maybe the fires in Florida burned up their computers? Maybe everybody is out of town on vacation? Maybe the kids are out of school and have taken over the keyboards? Maybe I scared them away by sharing information about copyright laws? Maybe they've learned how to chat online and have forgotten email? Maybe they've all found the SCRoots web site and are surfing the net? Maybe the HTML/attachment block Rootsweb installed is bouncing them? Maybe a recession has started and they couldn't pay the Internet bill? Maybe we lost them to another of the many email genealogy groups? Maybe we stimulated them to go to the archives or libraries? Maybe they are out documenting and saving cemeteries? Or, there might be a problem somewhere on the Internet and all our emails may be piling up somewhere in an email traffic jam? I think that may be what happened to me last week. I suspect it might have been because of the evacuations in Florida. Seems some Internet servers in the evacuation zones may have shut down. If a critical path router/hub shut down, maybe the mail started backing up? Last Saturday after almost nothing for 36 hours I got a bunch of mail dumped on me all at once. Some of it was stuff sent by the writer 1-2 days earlier. Or, maybe there is a problem with the equipment or software at our Rootsweb email host. They may be working on upgrading, fixing, etc., and may be holding incoming mail while they work on something. Or, maybe everybody found all their roots? As you can tell, I don't know what has caused the slowdown. If I find out anything worth telling, I'll let everybody know. It might just be a seasonal trend.
