If you are referring to Ninety Six District (one of the seven judicial districts) established in 1769, it was divided into the following counties in 1785: Spartanburg (on the NC border), Union, Laurens and Newberry (in the interior), Abbeville and Edgefield (on the GA border). Northeast of Ninety Six District, touching on both the Georgia & NC borders was the "Indian Territory," and south of Ninety Six District was Orangeburg District (also touching on the GA border).
