Janet,

As you may already know, that group was supposed to be the first group
to settle on what is now James Island. The land laid out on James Island
Creek was called Jamestown. There are several mysteries: 1) no plat or
map has survived; 2) while they were supposed to be Dutch, the early
James Island surnames are not Dutch; and 3) the exact location of
Jamestown has never been verified- a dig two years ago produced very
little in 17th century artifacts at the site thought to be Jamestown.
