My mother and friends called him by his given name...Bruce. Sheila >> Sheila is right, I have known lots of "Buds" and they had all different given names. I have a Bud in my line, too. I have always thought it had to do with "baby boy" or "baby brother" . My best friend when I was 12-14 years old was called, Buddy. His name was Harold, and he was the only son in the family. Had there been other sons born, he would have remained, Bud because he had aquired that name because he was the baby boy.
