I think the nickname "Bud" is just something that evolves from the natural 
talking to a baby boy--"Hey, Bud...How you doin'?",  etc. My father's name 
was Bruce Elliott GINGLES and the folks and friends from where he grew up 
called him "Buddy" until the day he died.  My mother and friends called him 
by his given name...Bruce.
