Does anyone have any information on this family? Following is what information I have been able to gather to date. Any help will be gratefully appreciated. -- Jon

William O. Nicholson married Cora Smith.
Their children were: James Oswald, Harry N, Charles Hazel, Emmett G, Gladys, and Sara. Believe that James was the oldest but am unsure of the order of the other children.

William also had a brother Charles. Do not know about any other siblings, but assume there were some.

William's family seems to have started in the Chesterfield County -- Kershaw County area. At least one of the children (James) was born in Kershaw County. Some records say DeKalb and others say Bethune. There is also some discrepancy on the birthdate, but it appears to be in the early 1890's.

We think the entire family was living in Colleton County, possibly in Ritter, at the time of World War I. This is based on a postcard to Sara addressed to her in Ritter from her brother James while he was in France during WWI.

The entire family seems to have moved to Charleston after WWI and most of the boys stayed there at least thru the 1950's and 1960's.

William O. Nicholson is buried at Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston. Magnolia gave me his date of death as July 1950.

Cora Smith Nicholson is also buried at Magnolia Cemetery next to her husband. Magnolia gave me her date of death as August 1937.

James and his wife Ethel are buried at Bethany Cemetery in Charleston. James died on 5 May 1957 and Ethel died on 28 May 1956.

I found a Nicholson family in the 1850 Census for Chesterfield County. No William, but assume he would not have been born in 1850. Hoping someone has access to the 1860 or 1870 Census for Chesterfield to see if this could have been William's line.

All help is appreciated. Thanks -- Jon
