Subject: Re: Need to find Stewart and McLure Cemetaries From: Kifle Tesfamariam Tewelde Date: February 27, 2001 As far as we can tell our Stewarts seem to have been the "Northern" Stewarts. They seem to have immigrated to SC, but we don't know from where they may have come from either Scotland/Ireland to there. These Stewarts have been found in the SC area since 1770 with the oldest person about 1750 who may have been the immigrant. For what it is worth, when I started on the Web, a lady in Florida told me that there were three distinct lines of Stewarts who came to the United States, and the more I do research, I can see what she means. One can start to pick them out, even though some could of easily moved in with the "other Stewarts". Anyway, to continue the story, our Stewarts and McClure's went to Kansas, and Ohio, Nebraska hence the name the Northern Stewarts. I believe she said there were Our Stewarts, the TennesseeFlordia (and areas) and the ones that went to Texas areas. I have discoverd another one and that is the ones who started out in the New York area. If you want to discuss further, I can be reached at [email protected]. Have you tried the lady from Greece, who has the Stewart Clan Magazines, and is very up on the Stewarts from all over. If you don't have her name I will find it for you. She does have a large web site to look at. Her knowledge and research is wonderful. Since Stewart is such a common name things can get confusing.
