When my children were in school, and having to learn the 50 states, I
traced a map from the Rand McNally Road Atlas.  There is one in the
beginning of the atlas, with the outlines of all the states.  It isn't
really large, but served the purpose.  We taped it to the kitchen wall, and
played games with it at mealtime.  They learned those states very quickly,
and it was fun.
