Subject: Nc Land Grants in Greene Co., TN From: Anne Crocker Date: October 04, 1998 Quoting from the Into to book "NC Land Grants recorded in Greene Co., TN," compiled by Goldene Fillers Burgner: "In 1783 the State of N C decided Washington District which extended as the present State of TN to the Mississippi River. ......Greene (now TN) was formed in 1783 from Washington (now TN)............This book contains approx. 2,00 land grants ....made by the US Gov. to pay off debts to officers and soldiers who served in the revolution; some of the grants were from land owned and sold by Lord Granville; others were issued by the states of NC and TN to encourage settlement....." There are lots of surnames from the uplands SC counties. Therefore, I'm hoping/speculating that these two DODDs may have come from the Union Co., SC, DODD family, especially because the names associated here are surnames of families intermarrying with DODDs a few years later. However, Wilkes Co., NC, is just east over the ridge from Greene Co., TN. Can anyone claim these folks and confirm their parentage? Lick Creek runs parallel to the mountain ridge throughout the length of Greene Co. My current map is is unfortunately no finer detailed.
