Dear All,

Darling is a surname.

I knew a Bill Darling in the 4th Grade at Benjamin Franklin Elementary
School in San Antonio, TX. He had very dark curly hair and very bright
blue eyes and left a small wooden painted triangular shaped box in the seat
of my desk. I have it to this day. He wrote in pencil Love, Bill Darling
on the inside of the lid. I didn't like Bill as a "boyfriend" only as a
friend and not wanting him to get the wrong impression I was going to
return the box. I had discovered it in the view of my teacher, Mrs.
Tanner, and I told her I would give it back. She wouldn't hear of it. She
said that it was a gift and to accept it as such and say "Thank you." I
always remember her little lecture on accepting gifts. A gift is given
with no expectations in mind, it is a gift. I have a rule, I give a gift
and forget I gave it, but remember gifts given to me.

So, the name Darling is a surname, complete with a story. God
bless and Good luck in your search.

Carolyn,
just an old Texas Gal.

I have noticed the name Darling used quite frequently. My grandfather's
name was Darling and he had an uncle named Darling. Where did this name
originate from?
Thanks,
Eleanor
