LAWSON, John	1783-1861  LOWNDES

JOHN LAWSON was born in North Carolina in 1783; the names of his parents 
and county of birth have as yet not been ascertained.  He married Mary Jane 
Green, born 1780 in South Carolina.  They came to Georgia in 1808 and lived 
first in Laurens County, and then they moved to Telfair County.  About 
1821-1822, John Lawson and family and Lawrence Folsom and Drew Vickers and 
James Rountree and Francis Rountree all moved to present Lowndes County and 
settled on Little River.  John Lawson and family located across the river 
in present Brooks County in present Barney district.  They lived there 
until late in life.  John Lawson and his wife moved to present Colquitt 
County where they lived until their deaths.  John Lawson died in 1861 and 
his wife died soon after.  They were buried on Ty Ty Creek in Colquitt 
County.  To John and Mary Lawson were born:

1. Harriet	b. 1807, never married,
2. Ashley	b. 1810, rn. Cynthia Folsom, daughter of Lawrence.
3. Eliza	b. 1811, m. Maston Folsom, son of Lawrence.
4. Green	b. 1812, m. Eleanor Folsom, daughter of Randall.
5. Daniel	b. 1815, m. Mary ______.

John Lawson had two brothers, James and Daniel.  James Lawson, born 1787, 
in South Carolina, was living in Lowndes County in 1850.  He later moved 
west and was never heard from again.  Daniel Lawson lived in middle Georgia 
and was murdered, supposedly for his money.

LAWSON, ASHLEY.	1810-1890 	LOWNDES

Ashley Lawson, a well-known citizen of Lowndes County of early days, was 
born in Laurens County, Feb. 23, 1810, a son of John Lawson .  He came to 
Lowndes County as a young man, with his parents, and was married there in 
1832 to Cynthia Folsom, born Nov. 8, 1815, daughter of Lawrence Folsom (see 
Vol. I). She died Aug. 21, 1878. To Mr. and Mrs. Lawson were born fifteen 
children, viz:

1. (unnamed)	b. Dec. 10, 1833, died when a few weeks old.
2. William	b. Sept. 7, 1834, m. Mary Vickers, dau. of Lewis.
3. John A.	b. July 11, 1836, m. MaryAnn Sineath, dau. of Wrn.
4. James Folsom	b. July 21, 1838, m. Mary Passmore.
5. Hugh	b. Mar. 21, 1839, m. Elizabeth Taylor. Died In C. S. A.
6. Green	b. Mar. 28, 1841, never m. Died 1865 enroute home from War.
7. Nancy	b. Dec. 17, 1842, m. Wm. J. Nelson.
8. Lawrence Folsom 	b. Jan. 29, 1844, m. 1st. Josephine Scruggs, dau. of 
Richard; 2nd. Mary Jones; 3rd. Laura Scruggs,
							dau. of Richard;	4th. Fannie King.
9. Martha	b. May 8, 1846, m. Ist. Lewis Ayers; 2nd; Thomas Hodges; 3rd. 
John W. Hagan.
10. George	b. Feb.	1, 1847, died age 12 years.
11. Ivy	b. Jan.	30, 1849, m. Cassie Hiers of Broom Co.
12. Hardy V.	b. Apr. 30, 1851, m. Angeline Lewis.
13. Susan	b. Apr. 7, 1853, died single.
14. Irwin	b. Aug. 6, 1854, m. Lillie Scruggs.
15. Missouri	b. Feb, 8, 1859, died age 4 years.

Note: William, Lawrence F., and Green Lawson were privates in Co. "H", 26th 
Georgia Vol. Inf. Regiment, enlisting Sept. 21, 1861. Green Lawson was 
captured and kept in Elmyra, N. Y., Prison until the war was over. He was 
released in a very emaciated condition, and died at Savannah on his way 
home. Three others sons were also in the war, viz, John A., James and Hugh.
Mr. Lawson was a soldier in the Indian War in 1836-38, and served a short 
while in the state militia in 1864 when it was called out to resist 
Sherman's advance through the state,
The Lawson home was on the old Union Road where he had a comfortable home 
and large plantation. He died there Nov. 22, 1890. He and his wife were 
buried on the old home-place about one-half mile west of Hahira, Ga.

This is a wonderful, incredibly active list.  MANY THANKS to all of you who 
spend an incredible amount of time at your keyboards entering data and
posting it to this list.  What a wonderful spirit of giving you 
demonstrate!
Whether the NAME you post belongs to "my" family or not, the greater
understanding of the history of ALL peoples in the region our ancestors 
lived
in, is beneficial to everyone's research.

NOW -- where have you folks been hiding my Lawsons (John D. b. 1821) and
Shirleys (any of 'em!)?!?!
