MURPHY, TIMOTHY	1775-1827 	DUPLIN (NC)

Timothy Murphy was born about 1775 in Duplin County. North Carolina. the 
son of William (b. ca 1750) and Elizabeth Murphy. He married Mary Alderman 
(b. Aug. 29. 1779). the daughter of David Alderman (b. 1749) and his wife, 
Jemima Hall. (Vol. 1).
Timothy lived near Rose Hill. The Murphy family bought. sold and owned land 
on Pharases Creek (a branch of Rockfish Creek). Beaverdain Creek. Stocking 
Head Branch. and Maxwell Branch which are all tributaries of the Northeast 
Cape Fear River.
Mr. and Mrs. Murphy were the parents of nine children as named in his will:

1. David	b. ca 1800. m. Mary?.
2. Susan	b.ca 1801. m. Wiley Stallings, son of Meshack
	d. 1869.	Stallings.
3. Eliza Ann	b. 3/07/1805. m. Francis Brice. b. 3/17/1804.
	d. 9/14/1880.	d. 1/29/1878. son of Joseph and Martha (Stalling) Brice.
4. William
5. Jemima	b. ca 1806. m. William Byrd. 4/23/1837.
6. Henry (q.v.)	b. ca 1808. m. Nancy.
7. Timothy W.	b.
8. Phoebe	b. ca 1815. m. John Brice. brother of Francis.
9. Mary Jane

Timothy and Mary (Alderman) Murphy seemed to have lived their entire fives 
in Duplin County. Mr. Murphy made his will on February 8. 1827 and it was 
probated April term. 1827 so that he died between those two dates. It is 
not known when Mary Alderman Murphy died. She. her son. Henry Murphy. and 
her son-in-law. Wiley Stallings. were executors of the estate. They are 
buried in the Murphy Graveyard on county road #1100 and #1120. just beyond 
Little Beaverdarn Creek. in umnarked graves.
At least five of the children. David. Susan. Elizabeth. Henry and Phoebe 
Murphy moved to south Georgia where they settled in Thomas County. Some 
lived in the parts that became Brooks and Colquitt Counties.They seem to 
have moved about 1833. but not all necessarily at the same time. Moving 
with them were several other Duplin County families who were related in 
some manner. Their descendants in Wiregrass Georgia are very numerous and 
influential.

FRANCIS BRICE was born in Duplin County, NORTH CAROLINA., March 17, 1804, 
son of Joseph and Martha (Folsom) Brice.  He grew up in Duplin County and 
married there to*********** Miss Elizabeth Murphy, daughter of James and 
Mary (Hill) Murphy****** of that county.  She was born March 7, 1805, and 
died November 8, 1880 at the family home in Brooks County, Georgia.  The 
children were:

1. Joseph	b. 1826, never married.
2. William Francis	b. 1830, m Phoebe Alderman, daughter of George.
3. Mary W.	b. 1835, m. Thomas R. Hesters.
4. David James	b. 1837, never married.
5. Timothy W.	b. 1839, m. Mary Fall.
6. Mitchell	b. 1840, m. (1) Keziah Walker, (2) Martha Edmondson, daughter 
of John
7. Martha	b. 1844, m. Dr. G. B. Williams.
8. Amanda	b. 1850, m. H. Dobbin Byrd.

In 1833, Francis Brice and his family emigrated to Georgia.  They were 
enroute with all their personal effects in covered wagons when the "falling 
of the stars" took place November 18. 1833.  Their destination was Thomas 
County, and there they settled on lands bought by Mr. Brice in the Tallokas 
district.  This property was added to later and the farm expanded until it 
became a very large plantation cultivated with slave labor.  There was also 
a large millpond and water-mill.  This property is now owned by a grandson, 
Hon. H. T. Brice, and is his home place, situated on State Highway 122 from 
Lakeland to Thomasville; and consists of several thousand acres of farm and 
timberland and the well-known Brice Fish Pond.
Francis Brice died January 26, 1878.  He and his wife were buried at nearby 
Bethel Primitive Baptist Church.
David James Brice enlisted March 4, 1862, in Co. "K", 50th Georgia. 
Volunteer Regiment, C.S.A.  He was killed in the battle of The Wilderness, 
Virginia, May 6, 1864.
