I am trying to establish when the Thomas Hawthorn family left Abbeville
County, SC and migrated to MS. I suspect that they should be in the 1840,
1850 and 1860 census of either Tippah or Pontotoc County, Ms (these counties
were combined along with a small section of Lee County in about 1870 and
renamed Union County)

I know that Thomas Hawthorn (or HATHORN or HAWTHORN) was in the Abbeville
Country, SC area during the 1830 This Thomas was the son of David Hazlep
Hathorn and Mary Ann Cowan, however, I don't know if we was living with his
parents, or on his on. David Hazlep Hathorn died in 1832)

The follow information is know:

1. He married a Mary (Polly) Richey. (daughter of William Richey)

2. Polly could have been living with her step parents Joseph and Eliz.
"Betsey"
Lyons prior to her marriage to Thomas or she could have been living with
a John WIER. Who I suspect was either her Grandfather or Uncle (Both
were
named John lived in Abbeville County, SC)

3. Polly would have been 17-18 during the 1830 census and I don't know if she
had
married at that time. (I know that she was married when a will was
probated in
1831) Thomas Hawthorn inherited $118 and was listed as being married to
Polly.

4. I know that Thomas and Polly's fist son, Harvey Hawthorn, was born
9/15/1832.

5. I know that the last of there (10 ) children, Mary Ada, was born
10/31/1856.

Note the different spellings of the name Hawthorn - I have tried to use the
spelling used by the people mentioned. The spelling went from HATHORN, TO
HAWTHORN, to HAWTHORNE. Thomas Hawthorn's father spelled it HATHORN and
Thomas changed it to HAWTHORN and Thomas' children used the modern spelling of
HAWTHORNE.
