I am looking for information to connect Dr. William H Mott to someone in SC.
Census record states that he was born in SC about 1817/18. He is listed on
the 1855 census in Montgomery, AL and the 1859-60 city directory for the
same city. I have found him on neither 1850 or 1860 census. He married
Amanda C May, 22 Jan 1862 in Montgomery. He and Amanda appear on the 1870
census in Montgomery with three children:
Lula 8, Harriet V 4, and Henry J 3. I am descended from Henry.

Thanks for any infromation that anyone can provide about the Mott/Motte
families in SC.
Melba in AL

Concerning Mott/Motte. If memory serves there were were possibly two Motte
families in Colonial SC. One coming from New England to the Dorchester
settlement and another were Huguenots. May be the same or closely related.
There is the Isaac Motte house on Tradd St. and the Motte family owned
>Exeter
Plantation in Berkeley Co. until the 1920's. I am related to the Mottes by
marriage a couple of times over but have never really checked into them.
There are few Mottes left in the Lowcountry, but I know that some did go
to
NC & FL.
