Subject: MOSES, Gaither A.-b.abt 1890 Burke Co NC-to David MOSES & Frances HELMS MOSES From: Cmcamidge Date: April 11, 1999 Can ANYONE out there PLEASE help me and my family. I apologize for the lengthiness but will provide as many details as I can. We are so desperate to find something on grandfather - it is as if he has vanished into thin air or never existed - except I know he did - I have a marriage certificate and birth certificate to prove it! I am looking for death/burial location of Gaither A. MOSES or any information leading to his grave site. Also would like to find any living relatives of Gaither A. MOSES - OR - any living relatives of Bessie MOSES COOK and Bynum COOK because they could help me find Grandfather's grave. Pertinent details are: * Gaither A. MOSES, born about 1890 in Burke County, NC Our family does NOT know what the "A" - middle initial stands for. * Parents: David MOSES and Francis HELMS-MOSES(Surname also has been listed as MOSSES) married January 17, 1877 in Burke County, NC * Believed to have three sisters, Lola and Ruth MOSES and Moice J. MOSSES and a brother named Joe (Joseph) MOSES who lived in Gastonia, NC * Gaither had a daughter named Cansadie (not sure of spelling - it might have stood for "Candace Sadie MOSES" ) and also had twins * Lived in the High Shoals or SOUTHSIDE area, NC in a house next to his father's house for about eight or nine years around 1928; around that time was when he separated from his first wife * Gaither was prone to have severe migraine headaches and supposedly visited a doctor in Maiden, NC for hair loss (bald spot) * Married Mary Lee MOSES (different MOSES family line) on Nov. 12, 1935 - Lincoln County, Lincolnton NC * Believed to have relocated to Bessemer City or Kings Mtn. NC around 1936 * Gaither was said to have worked in Shelby, NC in a cotton mill (name unknown) about 1937-40 * Was also said to have lived in Tennessee (area ??) for about three years around 1931 to 1934 * Gaither had relatives in upstate SC (possibly in Simpsonville or Abbeville) and his sister Lola MOSES owned a farm in South Carolina * Gaither was very, very close friends with a Bessie MOSES COOK and Bynum COOK of Bessemer City, NC and possibly lived with them for awhile. Bessie MOSES COOK had a son named Lawrence Dean JAMES and another son named Allen Gettis JAMES and she had a daughter named Lillie Mae COOK who married, divorced, then remarried a man named June COOK (Bynum Cook's brother) PLEASE - if you can find ANY information on any of the above MOSES -or- COOK families, PLEASE - PLEASE e-mail [email protected] - OR - e-mail [email protected] And just so I don't waste anyone's time), I have already tried * Soc.Sec.Death Index * Online Vital Records * WD FLOYD cemetery site * Ancestry.com (not member/ also as member) * GenForum.com * KnowX.com - paid search * Have written Soc.Sec. * Have written Bureau of Census * Have searched RootsWeb * Have been to Register of Deeds various counties * Have been to libraries * Some have searched FTM CD's for me * Written NC & SC Vital Records and Archives - they have no record of his death but say it is entirely possible "fell through the cracks" and did not get reported at the state level like it should have - perhaps he died in hosp/nursing home w/no relatives (I hope not! I hope someone was there!) I ALREADY FOUND: GAITHER, Moses - died Monroe, NC THIS ONE IS NOT MY GRANDFATHER I ALREADY FOUND: MOSES, JR., Clyde Gaither - HAVE ALREADY CHECKED THIS ONE - NOT MY GRANDFATHER! I've been to several suspected county register of deeds offices and libraries. I really hope someone out there can help me. Kindest regards and ... respectfully submitted...
