Dear April:

Joseph Abney was second Lieutenant in Captain Brooks Company that fought
in the Mexican War. He was one of the 28 out of 108 to survive and
prepared the report of the company. Died, Lemons Abney on march to
Perote, Aug. 8th, 1847.
Abney Meeting House built near Joel Abney's property served as a place
of worship c. 1803.  Was gone by 1897. Had 23 names of trustees, seven
of which were Abneys. No names were listed though the author states he
was in possession of the list. From "History of Edgefield County" by
John A. Chapman. Also posted to SC lists for other "Abney" researchers.
