Porcher Date: May 30, 2000 I noticed some discussion of early MILLERs in the Charleston area, so I thought I would post my Miller's again in case anyone recognizes them or connects to this family. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I would love to find the ancestry and more details of my Miller family. First Generation 1. John C MILLER, M. Born ca 1790 in Charleston , Charleston Co, SC. John C died in Charleston , Charleston Co, SC - Funeral from Trinity Church on 6 Jul 1869; he was 79. Buried in Magnolia Cemetery. Obit of John C Miller, Southern Christian Advocate, July 30, 1869 John C Miller died in Charleston, SC, July 6th 1869, having attained 79 years. He was married in 1817. His devoted wife still lingers. Of ten children, two daughters survive, but among the happy dead is the Rev J W Miller, late of the SC Conference. The funeral sermon was performed at Trinity and his remains were laid in the family cemetery at Magnolia, near the city of his birth. In 1817 when John C was 27, he married , F. died aft 16 Jul 1869. They had 10 children, 2 were alive in July of 1869 They had one child: 2 i. John Wesley, M (1829-1866) Second Generation 2. Rev John Wesley MILLER, M. Born on 27 Oct 1829 in Charleston , Charleston Co, SC. John Wesley died in Dorchester, Dorchester Co, SC on 20 Jun 1866; he was 36. Buried in Magnolia Cemetery. MINISTRY John Wesley Miller was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on October 27, 1829; converted in childhood; admitted on trial in the Conference in December, 1850, and appointed for 1851 Laurens Circuit 1852 Wadesboro 1853 Charlotte 1854 Cheraw 1855 Shelby 1856 Supernumerary at Georgetown 1857-58 Black River and Pedee (sic) Mission 1859 Santee Mission 1860 Charlotte 1861 Spring Street and City Mission, Charleston 1863 Chaplain in the Army 1864-65 Chaplain in the hospital at Summerville 1866 Darlington Circuit, where his labors terminated He died in the village of Darlington on the 20th of June, 1866. He was blemeless and harmless -- a son of God without rebuke from childhood until the hour of his dismission from the trials and cares of earth. As a preacher, he was kind, earnest, practical, simple, and loving. They had one child: 3 i. Charlton Wilson, M (1860-1933) John Wesley second married Ellen Margaret EVANS, F, daughter of Charles EVANS, M & Susanna KIELS, F. Born on 28 Nov 1841. Ellen Margaret died in Charleston , Charleston Co, SC. They had the following children: 4 i. Stephen H. "TeeBee", M 5 ii. John Wesley, M 6 iii. Harold "Harry", M 7 iv. James "Jimmy", M 8 v. Rebecca Virginia "Ginny", F (1866-1922) 9 vi. Ellen Margaret "Nellie", F (1866-1938) Third Generation 3. Charlton Wilson MILLER, M. Born on 10 Jul 1860. Charlton Wilson died on 29 Apr 1933; he was 72. On 29 Jun 1917 when Charlton Wilson was 56, he married Nathalie HEYWARD, F, daughter of Albert Rhett HEYWARD, M & Sally Coles GREEN, F. Born on 5 Sep 1879. They had no children. 4. Stephen H. "TeeBee" MILLER, M. Buried in Magnolia Cemetery. Charleston, SC 5. John Wesley MILLER Jr., M. 6. Harold "Harry" MILLER, M. 7. James "Jimmy" MILLER, M. 8. Rebecca Virginia "Ginny" MILLER, F. Born in 1866. Rebecca Virginia "Ginny" died in Charleston , Charleston Co, SC on 23 Aug 1922; she was 56. Buried in Magnolia Cemetery, 3 Belvidere, Charleston, SC. Resided in 11 Carolina St. Charleston, SC in 1922. Occupation: Homemaker, also raised canaries and violets in a special room added on to the house. Religion: Methodist. Rebecca Virginia "Ginny" married Milton Small STOPPELBEIN, M, son of Lorenze Echord STOPPELBEIN Jr, M & Harriett Elizabeth Louise VILLENEUVE, F. Born on 30 Jan 1854 in Charleston , Charleston Co, SC. Milton Small died in Charleston , Charleston Co, SC on 3 Mar 1921; he was 67. Occupation: Contractor, Police Commissioner. 9. Ellen Margaret "Nellie" MILLER, F. Born in 1866. Ellen Margaret "Nellie" died in Charleston , Charleston Co, SC in 1938; she was 72. Nellie was always called "Auntie." She and TeeBee rana general store on Line Street.
