Surname: McDowell, McDill, McGriff

I am trying to find info concerning Thomas McGriff prior to 1800. I would
especially like to find any info concerning a possible link between McDowell
family and McGriffs. The McDowells also may possibly have been known as
McDill. Thomas McGriff came from Va. to S. Car., but around 1800 left for
Nicholas Co., Ky., where he was until sometime before 1808, after which
he removed to Ohio where he remained until his death in 1831. His daughter
Susannah married my gggggrandfather James McDowell who had been ophaned
at age 10 and left with an uncle for Nicholas Co., Ky. Am trying to establish
possibility that Thomas McGriff was uncle to James McDowell or disprove,
either way. Believe Thomas' wifeto have been (Susannah?) Adkins of Va.
Any help would be most appreciated.
