Greetings from SC. I'm right here, lurking in the shadows. In "St. James
Santee, Plantation Parish: History & Records, 1685- 1925," by Bridges &
Williams (The Reprint Co, Spartanburg, SC, 1997), I find listings for
Elizabeth Rich SHOKES, her husband John SHOKES, & Georgiana SHOKES.

p. 411 from the Parish Register
"John Shoke [sic] of this Parish, Bachelor & Elizabeth Rich of this Parish,
Spinster, were married in the Dwelling House of the Rev. S. F. Warren of this
Parish, by Banns this Ninth day of September Anno Domini, 1787.

This marriage was solemnized between us John Shokes

Elizabeth Rich
In the Presence of us John Alexander
                                            S. Warren
Married by me. S. F. Warren of this Parish Clerk."

p. 435 from the Parish Register, Births & Baptisms
"April 26-- Octr 28. John, Sn of John & Elizabeth Shoke. Shoemaker."

p.272 from the momoirs of Hariett Gadsden Lucas Lofton... a brief reference
to Georgiana Shokes, a black woman, who quilted the quilt tops put together by
Hariett's grandmother

The only McBETH reference is in a note (p. 306) that mentions George D.
Macbeth of Charleroi, PA, a member of The Santee Club in 1934.

I have no connection to authors or publishing company, but I highly recommend
this book to anyone studying families in low country SC.
