Hi to all 

I am seeking additional information about Mary Ann Burt, b ca 1801,
daughter of
Harwood and Susannah Miles Burt, of Edgefield County, SC

My basic sources of information are:
1). the book by Robert Mathis "The Mathew Burt Family of Virginia and Deep
South" 1976
and
2). the unpublished works of James Claude Burt, a copy of which I found in
the Archives at Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA.

Each of these two sources include Mary Ann as the second child of Harwood
and Sukey, but neither mentions a possible marriage.

Now step back to Francis Burt, an older brother of Harwood, and he too
married a Miles woman, Catherine. Francis and wife had a son Mathew who
became a medical doctor. This is the one who moved to Jacksonville, Benton
County (now Calhoun), Alabama sometime in the late 1830s.

James Claude Burt does not include the name of Doctor Mathew's wife. Robert
Mathis stated he married a cousin Mary Ann Burt, but does not list her
parents. My concern is that there are numerous errors in the Mathis book
and he cites very, very few sources.
(Let me add parenthetically however that I am deeply grateful for his work;
it has provided many leads and directions for me.)

In analyzing the information about possible cousins, the only cousin I can
come up with for Dr. Mathew is the Mary Ann Burt, daughter of Harwood and
Sukey.

Does anyone have any supporting or contradictory information upon the above
situation?
