I have information on my line of Martins from SC but they were mostly from
Charleston and surrounding area. John Nicholas Martin was a well known
revolutionary war figure and Lutheran pastor that had a large following in and
arround Charleston. His father was Valentin Martin who came over to
Pennsylvania from Germany in 1756 and the family migrated down to SC and some
of them later to Ga which is my line. There are probably other Martin lines in
SC. There were many Martins listed in Ship and Pasenger emigration list index
books. My understanding is that they came from Germany and England and maybe
From elsewhere. My line was included in the Birkenfelder emigrants from
Germany and the only Martins listed in this group which lists from 1697 to
1815 are Valentin Martin who arrived in 1756 with some of his family in
Pennsylvania.
