Subject: Marriage records From: Rdwhite17 Date: April 16, 1999 I am looking for a resource to find out about a marriage that took place in Charleston SC around 1820. The marriage was between John White, a stonemason who recently immigrated from Edinburgh and Jane ?? (Last name unknown) probably from Charleston. He attended the First Scots Presbyterian Church. When I worte to that church -- the reply was that all pre-Civil War records had been shipped to Columbia for safekeeping and that Sherman burned them -- along with just aobut everything else in Columbia. In 1830, John White was a stonemason with his shop and home on Meeting Street. He had about 7 children. I am a direct descendent.
