a letter and a number, ie. W 253. Other sources are abbreviations and page
numbers; James 126 would be page 126 of "A History of Marion's Brigade," by
William D. James.
I do not have a list handy but some others are:

Weems, Life of Marion"
Boddie, "History of Williamsburg"
