Someone asked me how the manumissions were filed.  I found this one which
scanning the reverse deed index for Scotts.  The are filled by the owner's
name and the slave's name

Sumter District S.C. deed book dd Salt Lake City number 0355680

Now therefore this special deed, witnesseth that in condsideration of the
sume of five shillings to her the said Leonora Gamble Montgomery in hand
well and truly paid, the receipt whereof and hereby acknowledges the said
Leonora Gamble Montgomery hath emancipated and set free from slavery and
bondage the said Mulatto woman named Sarah and her five negro children named
Milly, Unity, Phillis, Billy and Amos, shlave and doth hereby convenate and
agree that the said emancipation shall be firm and valid against herself and
her heirs and assigns from henceforth and forever.  In witness whereof the
said Leonora Gamble Montgomery hath hereunto set her hand and seal this
twenty seventh day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and sixteen and in the fortieth year of the American Independence
sealed and delivered in the prescence of W. M. Donald
