Subject: Madray Family From: Wyatt & Anne Propst Date: August 29, 1999 Barbara, I have two different Berkeley County Cemetery books and this is what I have found: THORNLEY CEMETERY The Thornley family burial ground was located on Broughton Hall Plantation, St. John's Parish, Berkeley County, SC;six miles southeast of Bonneau, SC and three miles northwest of Pinopolis, on Broughton Hall Road. At the time of the inventory, the one acre cemetery was located on land formerly owned by the Atlantic Coast Line Corporation.........there were 13 marked graves and approximately 88 unmarked graves.....(this took place during the relocation project of Sante Cooper). ..... 75 names were identified and 15 remain unidentified....... Too much for this list. WASSAMASAW BAPTIST CHURCH located off Hwy 176 at Carnes Cross Roads and Cooper's Store RD. LILLIE V. MADRAY D/O J.H.E. & D.E. MADRAY 4 MARCH 1892-19 JULY 1896 There may be others located here but many graves were marked with wooden markers and the these were very badly destroyed during hurrican Hugo ten years ago this coming Sept. I will also copy this cemetery information for you. There is a possibility that there are written records for this church as it is still fully functional. I don't know the pastor's name for sure but I believe it is Fritz Young. I do have the telephone number..843-688-4281. Let me know if I can be of further help.
