I have seen early references to it as Lynches Creek. "Little Lynches," a branch of Lynches River, passes very close to Kershaw, SC then joins up with Lynches River near Bethune & Ashland, and eventually runs southeast through Florence Co. & joins up with the Great Pee Dee River before reaching the coast.
