PLEASE POST AND INFORM LORD AND THURMOND FAMILY MEMBERS OF OUR UP COMING
REUNIONS -- JIM LORD

Dear All:

I wanted to take a moment to invite all to attend the Lord reunion on
Saturday, Sept 23 and the Thurmond reunion on Sunday, the 24th. I believe
all are on the mailing list for the Lord newsletters but I wanted to add two
important points.

On I-85 out of Atlanta towards South Carolina at the Banks Crossing
exit(#149), there is a huge outlet mall, several motels, and restaurants.
This location is very convenient for the reunions--less than 10 miles away.
The Comfort Inn at this location will give a discount for the reunion
attendees. They are new, have no-smoking rooms, a continental breakfast, and
honor all other discounts also. What I liked about the motel was that we
could use those tables and chairs after the breakfast is served as a
gathering and visiting area to look at pictures, genealogy notes, and
scrapbooks at leisure. The phone number is 706-335-9001 and ask for Edna
Kane.

The second point is that after the Lord reunion (at 2:30 on Saturday
afternoon), we will gather at the Chandler cemetery very near the meeting
place of Blacks Creek Church for a rededication of this old family cemetery.
We are making a scrapbook of the history of this cemetery with a list of all
buried there, pictures, civil war information and any other data given by
family members. This will be available for all to see. We will have a
welcome, scripture, prayer, responsive litany, and then a speaker about the
16th GA INF. Soldiers in civil war costumes will place a battle flag over
one of the Chandler graves, give a rifle salute and then fold the flag
military fashion. Several wives of this re-inactment group will also be
present in 1860 dresses and play musical instruments of that time as we
gather. The company bugler will dismiss us with "Taps". This could be a
great time to learn more about Thomas Lord descendants and civil war
information also.

Again, I invite you to make both reunions if at all possible. We have people
working now to get notices about the Lord reunion and cemetery ceremony in
the local newspapers. Why not call or e-mail other family members or any
interested persons and invite them to attend??? People are hurt when they
learn later or when they didn't bring a camera.

Hoping to see you in Georgia! Glenda Thurmond
