I am still looking for information on these two brothers. I have heard from
other researchers, but have no documentation, that one or both of them may be
buried at a Davis Plantation, located at the "headwaters of the Salkehatchie
River". I have not yet found this Davis Plantation and am not sure what is
considered the headwaters of the river. I have also heard that Col. William
Davis may be buried on Rice Hope Plantation. There are quite a few of those in
South Carolina, but I suspect it is the one located near the Savannah River,
in former Winton County, now Barnwell and Allendale Counties.
I would appreciate any information on these two men or the locations of a
Davis Plantation, a Rice Hope Plantation, or the headwaters of the
Salkehatchie River.
DAVIS, Capt. James Jackson, (b. 1739, d. 1795), Tombstone reads "from Prince
William's Parish, a gallant soldier of the Rev. War", Beaufort District, SC;
DAVIS, Col. William, Rev. War (b. abt. 1730, d. 1801), first m. Ann McLeod,
1760 (b. 1737, d. 1777), children William, Jr., Charles Jones, Alexander W.,
Rebecca, John McLeod; secondly m. Rebecca Harden (?) Rutherford Weekly, 1785,
(b&d unk.), children - Ulysses Blake, Jane Elizabeth, Martha Maria; Prince
William's Parish, Beaufort District, SC. Alexander W. is buried at Old
Skillians Burial Ground, Hampton Co., SC.

Counties of South Carolina.
