He was 81. In late middle age he was diagnosed as bi-polar, this explained my horrible childhood subject to his rath and anger; the wonderful part is his illness forced him to depend on me, he lost his arrogance, became sincerely humble and wiser, and our last years were wonderful. He even helped me with my genealogy, something as an engineer who "disliked the human equation", was a wonderful shared experience, just as your anger, and sincere regret has, I hope, brought you and I, and hopefully, all or most of us closer. As to this being not totally only genealogy; the essence of genealogy is people, alive and real, or deceased and once real people, with strengths and faults and lives lived between the statistics of birth and death dates. Genealogy is not just statistics, it's also people, and people's inter-relation ships. Something besides statistics, as in all things, still needs balance though.
