Somebody asked what Yoruba religion was. The Yoruba are an ehtnic group in
modern day Nigeria and Benin in West Africa. Their religion was transferred
to the New World, where it became especially popular among people of all
colors in Brazil, and less so in Cuba, Jamaica, Trinidad, and Santo Domingo.
Essentially, they had a plantheon of gods something like the Greeks. Some
practices of slaves in the US seem to have come from Yoruba religion and
been transferred into their way of worship as Christians. Others say John
Henry was a Yoruba story, as the hero had a hammer and the main Yoruba god,
Shango, is known by his huge hammer/axe. Hope this helps whoever asked.
Couldn't figure out who it was.
