This is referring to the Laurens District, I am sure.  I have seen it written
this way before so it is really not that unusual.  Spelling of names did not
really seem to concern people so much until the last hundred years or so, and
that probably explains the confusion.  I have lived in SC my entire life and
never heard any other name to confuse with Lawrence except for Laurens.
