Researching Kirk and Johns(t)on in Lancaster County, South Carolina. Am =
particularly interested in locating family connections for Grace =
Johns(t)on born in 1769 and died in 1858 (both Lancaster County). =
Suspect her family's roots may have been across the border in NC. =
Genealogy research notes in Lancaster suggest that she may have had a =
brother named Eli. Grace was married to Mathew Kirk in 1787. They had =
eight surviving children. They are buried in the old Shiloh ARP =
Cemetery at Lancaster and are my great-great-great grandparents. =
Related names include Shaver, Countryman, and Harper among others. =
Mathew had two brothers in the US, John (older) and Robert. The three =
immigrated from Ballymoney, Antrim, on the James and Mary out of Larne =
in 1772 with the Rev. William Martin's party. John married a Montgomery =
and moved to Tennessee. Robert was married -- maybe twice? His son =
Robert, Jr., died around 1843 and Robert was already deceased at that =
time. Am also looking for more information about Robert. Who were his =
wive(s) -- one was named Agness -------- ? The same genealogical notes =
say that he was rumored to have married a Cureton. Mathew and Grace's =
descendants are reasonably well-documented. I would very much =
appreciate any information you have on this line, particularly from the =
1700's. Kathy Kirk, Birmingham, AL
