"The enlistment of John NELSON took place at the White Marsh, State of
Virginia, on the fifth of April 1777 in Cap't Wm HULL's Co as a regular
soldier was attached to WOVELFORD's Brigade 15th Regimental U.S. Army
Col. E----------- the Commander - This is the statement made by my father
before his death in memory of his son.  I have recorded the same to be
taken care of by my children to prove there is no Tory blood in their
descent."   /s/John A. NELSON Jan. 22, 1844

The above statement was recorded by John Alexander Nelson in regards to
his father, John Nelson, who was born in England and brought to the US as
a child.
