It is getting time to put your priorities in order and see where they
lie, there are 33 days left til the Kesler reunion in Franklin County
GA. Begins at 10:30 AM 1 August 99 at the Prospect Methodist Church
about 10 miles south of Toccoa, Ga in the juncture of the tri county
area of Banks, Franklin and Stephens counties. There will be Church
services with Preaching likely from Rev. Dennis Kesler and Gospel
music by he and his family if the agenda of past reunions sticks and
it likely will. Attendees will experience some of the best gospel
music around this part of the country anywhere.
Bring a spread of food to share with others in the activities building
aka dining area. Bring your family information to share if you would
like to do that.
I will again be trying to collect such information from attendees that
will provide the meat and potatoes of a book that has compiled the
family histories of ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE ORIGINAL BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OF PROSPECT METHODIST CHURCH and their related families and also
includes the other families living in the Prospect Community during
the mid 1800's to present. I am not writing this book to publish it
myself, when finished it will be donated to the Church so that they
may publish it or not as they choose and if the book is not finished
and ready by the next reunion of year 2000 I will back out of it and
quit trying because I am getting no help from the families themselves.
People are not sharing their family information.
For example: one local family has the old Kesler [german] Bible, the
old James MILLER Bible, several old portraits and photos, old store
records, but will not allow anyone to even see it much less come share
it with the folks at the reunion. With attitudes like this it is a
wonder if we will ever find all the answers to our family histories.
Fortunately, I have the information contained in both those Bibles
provided to me as much as 26 years ago so although I cannot see the
Bible I know what is in it.
I hope people will open up and become generous with information that
is needed and desired by many other people.
it is only thru sharing that we will ever have adequate documentation
of our families' histories.
I have in depth [but not complete] family histories of all the
original members of the board of trustees and of several other
families as follows:
CRUMP, AYERS, KEASLER/KESLER, MARTIN, WHITFIELD,
PAYNE, POOLE, PURCELL, LEDBETTER, MABRY,  WILLIAMS, MILLER. There are
other families represented in lesser degrees of completeness.
Information needed is YOUR FAMILY GROUP SHEET i.e. your parents names,
birth dates, death dates, locations, marriages, children and of course
if you know them include your grandparents and as far back as you can
go and include your children and their family group sheets as well.
The most welcome items you can send me are PHOTOS, STORIES [family
legends and tales of all kinds], DIARIES, JOURNALS, OLD LETTERS, etc.
I can scan a photo into the computer and send it back to you the same
day or day after just as quick as the US mail can run it back to you.
The other items will take a little longer to type or copy and get back
to you but I will not damage the items I am a careful and caring
person about such family valuables that I consider priceless
heirlooms.
As of today I have over 325 pages of material already in the word
processor, I only have about 20 photographs, that is not nearly enough
photos to support an undertaking of this magnitude so please support
this effort to document the history of the members of the Prospect
Community of franklin Co GA.
If you don't know whether your family fits or not PLEASE ASK ME AND I
WILL TELL YOU WHERE YOUR FAMILY IS LOCATED RELATIVE TO THE OVERALL
GROUP. I can run a quick check and get back to you but please share
information with us all. It is my opinion that the documents and
family information that was left to us by our ancestors is not really
our own property but should be shared at least to be read and seen by
the rest of our expanded family.
You share with me and I will share with you and give you credit for
providing the information to the group. Repeat: there is nothing in
this for me personally except the following. God's word to us is a
commandment Honor thy Father and thy Mother and how can you do that if
you don't lift your forefathers and mothers names up and say to the
world Hey, these are my Ancestors. Let's honor our Mothers and Fathers
this next Kesler reunion at Prospect.
