Subject: Re: JOYNER/JOINER; mid 1700s From: ronnie thomas Date: May 07, 1999 You mentioned a child being born in Amelia. From a map I obtained from the Atlanta, GA archives (Surveyor General Department) and published in 1780: In Craven or Berkeley County*, there was an Amelia Parish bordering on the south of the Congaree & Santee River (just after the Wateree River merged with the Congaree). Amelia Church was on Mill Creek, as near as I can tell. My husband's family moved into this area ca. 1762 From the map I have, it looks as if Craven Co. ended at the Congaree on the south. It appears that the Santee was the dividing line between Berkeley and Craven Cos. on the east. The settlers named in Amelia Parish on this map were: Lloy, Colonel Thompson, Joyners, Sellers, Farrer, Burgen, Livingston, Jones, Brown, Mealy, Caldwell, Holmans, McNichols. Other than Amelia Church there was a High Hill Creek and a Buck Head Creek and the longest creek was mill creek. Amelia Parish was just north east of Orangeburg Parish and on the other side of the river from the Santee Swamp and the High Hills of Santee areas.
