Subject: Joseph Whitner Young From: Lelia Davis Date: June 21, 1998 Hello On 5-24-98 I sent a message requesting information on JOSEPH WHITNER YOUNG (J.W.). So far I have not received a reply, however, in the meantime I made a short trip to the Easley/Pickens area. My trip was quite rewarding but I did not prove who J.W. Young's father was. J.W. Young was born 25 June 1849, out of wedlock to Sarah Young, daughter of Steven and Rebecca Porter Young. J.W. Young had a sister Eliza A. Young born out of wedlock on 9 Aug 1847. E.B Mosley pleaded guilty to the charge of bastardy and was ordered to provide maintainance for the child on 2 April 1850. Since the boy was not mentioned in the charge in my untrained mind this means he was not the father of J.W. Am I wrong? Was there a rule that there only needed to be one charge per family?? Since I have been working on this project I have had the notion that his name is a clue to his parentage. There was a family of Whitner's (Joseph Whitner to be exact)in the area but I have not found them in the 1840's or 50's in Pickens county. Sarah did have a brother Joseph but I have not seen his middle name, he had a son Joseph Walton Young who moved to Arkansas. This rather involved but if anyone can help solve the mystery it would be greatly appreciated.
