There is a referrence to Joseph OATES in a Bladen County North Carolina
Special Deed Book p. 443 Deed #339 States" JOSEPH OATES PF CRAVEN COUNTY
SOUTH CAROLINA for 30 pounds sells to Edmund Brown of Bladen Co. NC. both
planters, 100 acres on a swamp called COWPEN PRONG including Nicholas
Prince's improvement, PATENT FORMERLY GRNATED TO JOSEPH OATES nov. 19, 1764
Wit: Rich. Barfield, and Thomas Brown Ack ct. 1774." Can anyone tell me who
this Joseph Oates may be. I do have an ancestor by that name he was born in
Albemarle Precnict Perquimans County North Carolina 7/Aug/1697. I do believe
it is highly possible that the one mentioned here is the same person. If
there is anyone doing research one this individual or his family please
email me at [email protected]. Now Joseph did have two grandchildren
that moved from North Carolina to South Carolina but that was in pre-1801
and 1802. Samuel died in Fairfield in 1801, and Stephenson died in
Darlington in 1817. Could someone tell me what the PF means.
Thank you
Jacob L. Bateman III or Le
