<< Judy,
Did Lewis happen to have a son named James? I'm looking for family of
James Roberts b abt 1775 SC d abt 1855 GA.

Hi Melba,
I have been wondering this myself. Folks Huxford wrote in the volumes of
"Pioneers Of Wiregrass, Georgia", that Lewis Roberts and Mary (???)
had only one child, John R. "Buttermilk Jack" Roberts, b. 1778 SC around
Edisto, and d. 1854 in Union CO, FL. Buttermilk Jack brought his father
Lewis, to Georgia with him and they settled in Wayne Co, about 1800.
Buttermilk Jack married Phoebe Weeks O'Steen, b. 1785 NC, d. 1851 FL
John and Phoebe were my hubby's gg-grandparents. There is a James Roberts, b.
1784 SC and d. 1864 FL. I know these dates are not the same as for your James
Roberts, but I can't help but feel that this James b. 1784 may have been a
brother to my Buttermilk Jack. The reason being, this James is buried in the
family plot at Swift Creek Church along with Buttermilk, his wife Phoebe and
their son Nathaniel. I have been to the cemetery and took pictures of all of
the graves. The fact they are buried together plus only 6 year age difference
makes me suspect that they may be brothers, the grave markes are old and
originals. I am not convinced that Lewis had only one child! I find that
unusual for the times. If someone on the list has any input on this, I would
certainly welcome it.
Judy
